Our self-image

Subbotnik, founded in 2015, sees itself as a socio-cultural center in Chemnitz and as a communal open space that is defined by the participation of all actors- artists, creatives, associations, initiatives, individuals, members and visitors. Events of all kinds take place in the former school canteen: Workshops, concerts, readings, a regular vegan SoKü (social kitchen), a vegan café and much more invite you to be active or simply present. There is no pressure to consume here. Instead, you can browse through the feminist library, surf the internet or relax in our hammock.

As a free space, Subbotnik thrives on the active participation of everyone who uses it. Whether it's a plenum, queer cinema, dance group or other projects - we support you in implementing your ideas. Our facilities include a large hall, a seminar room, a pub, workshops and a catering kitchen. Our aim is to create a safer space that is characterized by anti-fascism, anti-racism and anti-sexism and enables people to treat each other with respect.

Responsible and respectful interaction with each other and with our premises is the basis of our self-image. This requires a continuous negotiation process that takes place in a regular plenary session. We make decisions based on consensus to ensure that all voices are heard. The basis for this is our emancipatory claim, which promotes social and individual empowerment. This claim forms the basis for private, communal and political action and consistently excludes any form of ideologies of inequality, such as sexism, racism, anti-Semitism or homophobic and trans-hostile behavior.

Within this framework, everyone is invited to use, help shape, maintain and further develop Subbotnik. Implementing and adhering to this self-image requires structured working methods and open, considerate communication.
